who would brian boitano do?

It's been a hectic couple of days. Thursday night, the latest word on FIL was that he possibly had an aneurysm and might have to go into surgery right away. So I took Friday off and we spent all day at the hospital, but all they did was several more tests, including an ECG and one where they put dye in so they can look at all your blood vessels. Apparently they still can't decide if it's the heart throwing off blood clots, or an actual blood vessel in the brain. So they've pretty much done nothing about it yet. It's very frustrating and especially for FIL, who pretty much has to lie flat on his back all the time. He seems to be doing okay, but not as well as we or he had hoped he would by this point. It's just more wait and see.

Yesterday I went with Mom and Dad and took YMB to his soccer game. Blue stayed home and slept, as he's gotten hardly any sleep this week. We had to have a Talk with YMB early this week because he suddenly decided he wanted to quit soccer -- it was "too hard." We finally got out of him that it was because Coach yells, and because he makes them run laps and practice drills, instead of just letting them goof around like his coach last year did. Obviously this did not sit too well with Blue, and YMB got the talk about responsibility, and commitment, and sportsmanship. All that good stuff.

So he was okay about going to the game yesterday, but annoyed because I wouldn't take him late so he could miss warm-up. Then I could tell he was pouting because he was on defense and didn't get to play center. And then they started losing. So then, right after the half, YMB decides to fake a trip, trying to get the other team a penalty. When that didn't work, he pushed the other kid right between the shoulder blades. Very obviously. Well, the ref didn't catch it, but Coach did, and took him out of the game. Which made him really steamed, and as he got to us he threw his water bottle down where it exploded all over us.

So he got in Big Trouble yesterday. No Gameboy or Playstation for a while, and he had to go apologize to the coach, the other coach, and the kid he pushed. Which I think was the worst part. And he couldn't play at all in the game today. It might seem kinda severe, but we're really concerned that he's developing violent tendencies as a way of dealing with all the stress in his life. He didn't feel at all bad about pushing this kid, and the kid was crying and everything. He's made several comments about fighting, and how cool it is to "kick so-and-so's-butt." Time to see a therapist, kiddo. I'm at my wit's end.

So today we went to the Michigan Renaissance Festival. It was the last day, and it was incredibly crowded. But it was fun, despite YMB being pouty over not going to his soccer game and whining because he was bored. My hair is finally long enough to get braided, so I did that right away while the boys looked at wooden swords and watched Don Juan and Miguel. While it is hilarious, their show never changes, and I've seen it like 12 times. Blue is newer to RenFesting than I am, and still doesn't know all the jokes.

My hair is awesome. It's in this crown-like french braid that wraps all the way around, with the extra rolled up in the back, and little twisty bits looped over it. Blue took pictures, so I'll post one when I get it scanned. The woman said if I put something slippery, like a slip or nightgown, over my pillow, it should stay for a day or two. It certainly feels tight enough.

Gotta get a digital camera.

I am very tired from walking around all day. But we did have fun, and there are lots of nifty artisans. It was quite fun to actually be able to afford a few things this year, instead of just drool over them like we always do. YMB used his allowance and bought a dragon-claw pendant (we nixed the wooden sword, see above), Blue bought a t-shirt that says "Got kilt?" (they were all out of the ones that said "Wenches want me," which was a bummer because then I would have bought the one that just said "Wench.") He got a silver pendant with some sort of medieval falcon motif on it, and I bought a lovely decorative wood hair comb which I managed to lost somewhere. I also bought two little stone plaques, one of which says "Plenty and grace bless this place" and the other has a medieval looking kitty with "Here lives a very fine cat indeed" which I seem to remember as Johnson, but I'm not sure. I managed not to lose those. Also a mini-kaleidoscope necklance for Buttercup's birthday, which is this week. I really want a silver Celtic cross, or else one with the Celtic female trinity design, but I didn't find any I liked in my price range. And we saw the most hilarious little pug dog, he probably weighed like 4 pounds, with fairy wings strapped on his back. His name was Oberon. I wanted to get some wings for Sophie, but Blue didn't think she would take too kindly to that.

Oh, I almost forgot. Last night I was IMing with N, and she mentioned how she and Prufrock watched the South Park movie the other night. Then we were somehow talking about porn, and simultaneously decided that Brian Boitano should make a porno so that it could be called "Who Would Brian Boitano Do?" which led to much hysterical laughter on both sides and Prufrock thinking we are insane.

From there we began much speculation about which athletes had actually come out, and found various webpages devoted to the gay athletic community, the best of which seems to be Outsports, which led us to an awesome drool-inducing one for the New York City Gay Men's Hockey League. Who knew? Who cares -- check out those calendar pictures. Whew. Somebody bring me some ice water. Sexual orientation matters not in pictures!

According to N, there is some porn flick that features midgets dressed up like Oompa-Loompas. I was forced to confess my fear and loathing of said Oompa-Loompas. They scared the piss out of me when I was ten. The idea of seeing all that freaky orange skin naked completely creeps me out, and may put me off sexual activity for several days. Thanks a lot, N.

Ah well, at least I've got this, courtesy of a link from Mimi Smartypants. So I know how to avoid those nasty, nasty thoughts. And if you found that entertaining, go back to this, where someone with WAYYYYYYYY too much time on their hands has collected the worst sex links (text only, sorry) from all over.

Oompa Loompa porn. I'm gonna have nightmares.
