32 GALLONS?

So, what exactly does one do with a 32 gallon jug of cooking oil?

My husband decided yesterday, all on his own, to go to the local Big Giant Warehouse O Huge Boxes That Dont Fit in Your Cupboards. When I got home from work and working out yesterday afternoon, he was rearranging the kitchen cupboards in an attempt to find room for the aforesaid jug, as well as various boxes containing:

    64 individual packets of EasyMac
    64 granola bars
    32 lunch-size containers of fruit
16 normal-size boxes of Nutrigrain bars
2 normal size boxes of Saltine crackers
    4 bags of Cheez-its
1 box of frozen lemon chicken as big as our freezer
    1 oversized jug of Vitaballs
and a partridge in a pear tree

There were boxes and things all over the floor of the kitchen when I walked into the room, and Blue was sitting in front of the pantry cupboard making a little container for all the packets of powdered things out of an old cracker box.

Me: Went to Sams, eh?
Blue, excitedly: Yes!
Me: Um, whats in this box? (said box comes up to my knee)
Blue: Oil.
Me, incredulously: Cooking oil?
Blue,defensively: We use oil.
Me: Maybe this much in a decade!
Blue: Its not like it goes bad.
Me: Ok, smartypants, how do you propose to actually get any oil out of this giant-ass jug?
Blue: Ill think of something.

Oy.

Anyway, on a more exciting note, everyone say yay and congrats to Mimi on her and LTs impending adoption. So exciting! And considering how hard I laughed at her changing table bit, I can hardly wait to read about her motherhood adventures.

good, for a change

So, things are good at the moment. This of course, I shouldnt say, in case it means something terrible is right around the corner. But still

Weve saved and scrounged enough to get Blues tuition almost completely paid off, which is a huuuuuge relief. This means we just have to get the car fixed where that post ran into me, and then we can start directing our savings back into the adoption fund. Yay!

Blue has been in a pretty decent mood lately. Finishing school helped, of course, and now not having that debt hanging over him definitely takes a load off. Getting a job in his field would be the ultimate, but the place he really liked where he interviewed is being extremely poky about making a decision. Theres one other option that looks good, however, so were trying to stay positive about it. He hasnt had any heart to hearts with his dad lately, which is helpful for his peace of mind as well. Were just riding that mess out and not getting involved as best we can.

Also, his uncle scored tickets to the UM-Notre Dame game on Saturday, and he had a blast there, which cheered him up immensely. He loves to see his hated teams get whomped, just like any red-blooded American male, I suppose.

Schools going fairly well for the kid. He did get in trouble last Friday, for calling some kid a moron and then being untruthful about what really happened. From what I can gather the other kid really was being a moron, but still. YMB needs to start learning the fine art of walking away. Other than that, he still likes his teacher, and I really like the way she deals with homework and whatnot, so thats good, at least for now.

Physically Im doing ok except for some swelling in my hands and feet. Im sleeping better, which is a huge deal. Work is meh, as usual, but we look to be changing projects in the next couple of weeks and that will be a good thing. French drama as opposed to Early English books. Im sure Ill get bored of French after a while, too, but it will be pleasant to work on something different for a while, and get some use out of my rusty French skills.

Erm. Thats about all I can think of at the moment. We have enough money in the bank to pay bills and still buy groceries, and everyone at home is fairly content. Thats a nice change, and one too long in coming.

the rant page

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Superintendent and I had the opportunity to speak at this years first PTO meeting that was held this past Thursday. One issue about which many parents raised concerns was transportation. The parents suggested that it would be helpful if the administration sent a letter to parents to inform them of the steps that are being taken to address the transportation problems. So, I am heeding their suggestion and sending this letter to explain how the administration is working to solve the issues surrounding transportation.

Please tell me what there is in that paragraph that couldnt be summed up with The administration would like to update you about the transportation problems. Our Assistant Superintendent: Mistress of Pomposity. They could slash the budget in half if they cut her word allotment.

The letter goes on to explain all about the transportation issues, which I'm sure you don't care about, and manages to imply that really it's all the parents fault; if they didn't have their kids in daycare, and stayed home so they could drive them to and from school, really there would be no busing problems. And if they didn't call and leave messages at the transportation department about their problems, the secretaries would have more time to work on solving the problems. Which, of course, they wouldn't know about because no one called and told them.

Open House is Thursday. I am SO looking forward to it.
